MISSION STATEMENT:
Evergreen Humanitarian & Relief Services is a non-profit organization founded by Delford Smith to expand Evergreen International Aviation’s on-going legacy to support local and International Humanitarian and Relief projects.

THE FOUNDATION'S GOALS:
Assist developing countries to improve/deliver healthcare, eradicate disease, and promote economic development to increase self-sustaining communities in order to care for orphans and vulnerable children.

Promote the health and well being of children worldwide by supporting medical research.

Partner with other nonprofit organizations, corporations and governmental agencies to combine resources locally to assist vulnerable children and families.

Provide aviation support (fixed wing and rotor-wing aircraft) for relief projects.

CURRENT PROJECTS:
In February 2005, Evergreen International Airlines shipped nine Living Water Treatment Systems to the tsunami-ravaged nation of Sri Lanka. Partnering with Water Missions International, Evergreen arranged transportation of the units to Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka. The Living Water Treatment Systems provide a continuous supply of clean and safe drinking water for communities up to 3,000 people and help reduce diseases by removing waterborne pathogens.

In January 2005 Evergreen International Airlines donated a Boeing 747 freighter aircraft to assist the American Red Cross international response to the earthquake and tsunami disaster in Southeast Asia. The aircraft transported 200,000 pounds of mobile kitchen sets and other relief supplies to the nation of Sri Lanka. Evergreen’s donation included the use of a Boeing 747 freighter aircraft, fuel, crew, insurance, maintenance, flight logistics and cargo storage, handling, loading and unloading.

Evergreen International Airlines transported 3000 pounds of donated clothing for injured U.S. troops from the United States to Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany aboard a Boeing 747 freighter aircraft in December 2004. Evergreen loaded five pallets of clothing valued at approximately $75,000 at its base at John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York, New York, flew the pallets approximately 4000 miles, and then trucked the pallets to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center. The mission, christened "Operation Warm and Fuzzy," was initiated by Oregon Air National Guard Chaplain Lt. Col. Richard Sirianni and the 142nd Fighter Wing Community Foundation.

Since 1974, Evergreen has partnered with the World Health Organization to combat infestations of the black fly in 13 West African countries. The black fly carries onchocerciasis, a worm larva living under the victims’ skin causing terrible itching, severe skin lesions, damage to the eyes, and eventual blindness. Having now protected over 30 million people from blindness, this 30-year program is one of the most successful operations the World Health Organization has undertaken.
